Chef Dave Hettler had over 10 years of restaurant experience before deciding to attend Ivy Tech to study Culinary Arts. While attending Ivy Tech, Dave entered and won a European competition which allowed him to study for 2 weeks in Paris, France. Following graduation from Ivy Tech, where he earned a degree in Hospitality Administration with a concentration in Culinary Arts. He opened and operated All Event Catering, which served weddings and corporate events and Creative Plate Catering which served upscale clientele in an in-home setting. Dave began teaching full-time at Impact Institute in 2010. He enjoys teaching students and seeing them grow and develop their culinary skills.

Chef Sami Ervin graduated from Impact’s Culinary Arts Program and Prairie Heights High School. She went on to study at the prestigious Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York where she was the first Impact student to graduate with a Degree in Baking and Pastry Arts. After graduation she went to work for Zingerman’s Bakehouse in Ann Arbor Michigan, where she had completed her CIA Externship, as a cake decorator and designer of custom and wholesale cakes. Sami returned to Indiana to teach full time at Impact in 2021, she also instructs part time on campus at Ivy Tech.  She enjoys watching students learn and grow, and is excited to continue to share her knowledge and love of baking with future students.
